Hey, all. I’m going to take a hiatus from tumblr. I love tumblr and the community I have found on here, and I fully believe that tumblr has made me a better, more aware and informed person.
However, I have surrounded myself for too long with only people who agree with me, creating an echo chamber and a false sense of universal agreement and superiority over anyone who disagreed. I think I need to be exposed to different ideas, to get outside my complacent ideological box. I’m sure I will disagree with many things, but the important thing to me is to be exposed.

“One evening about one and a half months ago I was driving with my youngest daughter on a dark road when a car in front of me slammed on a breaks forcing me to break sharply and nearly going of the road to avoid crashing into him (her?). By the time I came to myself the other car was gone without checking on us, just drove away. When I got out to see what happened I discovered a dead pup on a road. Then I noticed another one sitting on a the edge of the road. Without thinking I lifted a puppy and put it on front seat wrapped in my jacket. It never moved or made a sound for another hour while I drove home. I was convinced I was driving a dead dog 😢. My daughter slept peacefully throughout the whole thing! Long story short the puppy turned out to be just in a deep shock and gradually got back to the usual puppy happy state😁. My kids fell in love with her and the youngest (Matilda) is absolutely obsessed with Lilly (the puppy). They go everywhere together, sleep together, eat together and play together. There is no end to hugs and kisses. It’s just a cutest thing to witness every day.”

Make a positive difference today. Tell someone you appreciate them. Tell someone that you love them. Be kind and gentle. We need more caring people in the world everyday but especially today.
When Obama won, the right threatened violence and uprisings. They spewed vitriol and simmered in their own hatred and this is what we got.
Today, I’ve had so many conversations with people who are considering and embarking on new paths of public service. People who are talking about law school, public policy, teaching, international engagement, volunteering, even just giving radical amounts of kindness to the people around us who need it. I’m not seeing violent rhetoric or talk of violent uprisings. I’m just seeing a lot of good people saying “It’s going to be hard work, and we’ll do that hard work because we need each other.”
We can take our country back. When they go low, we go high.
Everyone saying “don’t leave, stay in America and fight” don’t realize it’s physically unsafe for some people. It’s as privileged a sentiment as anything else.
There are people who don’t have the privilege to stay, and people who don’t have the privilege to leave. We’re all gonna have to do what we can do.
